the Hut

The Hut Outside ViewWelcome to our information page - to show and tell you all you might want to know about our wonderful sea-side centre.

Go to BOOKING YOUR DAY  page to find out about booking a day at "the Hut" in 2022.

"the Hut" is open from about the 1st April to the middle of October every day for groups of day-visitors to come and enjoy a day at the seaside. Situated adjacent to the promenade and very close to the public highway it is ideally located.

The Hut view from the insideIn line with the objectives of the Association, visitors are groups from elderly residential homes, senior citizen clubs, church elderly peoples groups, and nursing and care homes, hospice and hospital groups and ailment support groups. The last category includes groups such as "the XYZ Stroke Club", the "ABC Alzheimer's Carers group" and the like.

"the Hut" provides visitors with a unique venue to enjoy the sea-side away from their usual environment. It is not available for the purposes of raising money (fund-raising) from members of the general public, but of course visitors are free to arrange raffles/draws or other fund-raising activities from among those in the group visiting on that day.

Hut kitchenIt is fully equipped to cater for groups of about 50 (a coach full) with seating, tables, crockery and cutlery.

hut kitchen and interiorThe kitchen has a refrigerator, micro-wave, standard domestic sized cooker/oven and a Lincat water boiler to provide an endless stream of boiling water to brew tea and coffee. The only "consumable" items provided by us are salt/pepper and vinegar (individual sachets) for all those groups who order in "Fish and Chip" from one of the local suppliers.

Cost - £60 per day (arriving no earlier than 9.30am and departing before 5pm)

"the Hut" is DDA ready with access ramp, level interior, DDA fitted toilet (in addition to two standard WC units), and is thoroughly cleaned after every visit. A stock of eight wheelchairs are available for groups to use to transfer disabled visitors to and from the drop-off point or to use to explore the sea-front gardens, the promenade or other attractions on offer in Felixstowe.

Being on the promenade "the Hut" does not have a Royal Mail Postcode. The nearest postcode is IP11 7LR but be warned that will not show the exact position. We recommend visitors use High Road East, turn into Maybush Lane to the bottom and follow the seafront road going towards the town.

Drop off bus stopYou will see a prominent "BUS STOP" marking on the road-way - this is your drop-off and pick-up point. "the Hut" is a few yards/meters along the promenade just past the Ice Cream Kiosk. On arrival, you will be met by one of our "meet and greet" volunteers, to make you welcome, show you round and answer any questions. You will then be left alone to enjoy your day at the sea-side.
